D’Youville University proudly celebrates President Dr. Lorrie Clemo’s continued recognition on the Buffalo Business First Power 200 Women list, honoring the region’s most influential and impactful female leaders. This year, Dr. Clemo was once again named among the Top 20, recognized for her visionary leadership, commitment to community health, and continued transformation of D’Youville University.

Since becoming D’Youville’s first lay president in 2017, Dr. Clemo has led one of the most transformative periods in the university’s history. Under her leadership, D’Youville has expanded its academic portfolio, strengthened community partnerships, and continued to invest in innovative programs that prepare graduates for careers that matter.

Among this year’s defining milestones was the opening of the D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine. This month, 97 future physicians began classes as members of the inaugural class of Western New York’s first osteopathic medical school and the region’s first new medical school in nearly 200 years. The achievement represents years of planning and reinforces D’Youville’s growing role as a leader in healthcare education while helping address the physician shortage across New York State.

D’Youville also announced the launch of the Workforce Development Center, a transformational initiative designed to create new pathways into high-demand healthcare careers. Opening in Spring 2027, the Center will prepare more than 400 healthcare professionals annually through flexible, career-focused certificate programs developed in partnership with regional healthcare employers, expanding opportunity while helping meet critical workforce needs.

The university’s momentum has also been recognized nationally for the value of a D’Youville education. A recent Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce study found a D’Youville degree delivers immediate and lifelong value, ranking it the No. 1 private university in Western New York for return on investment.

“Dr. Clemo has never been satisfied with maintaining the status quo. She has consistently challenged D’Youville to think bigger, act boldly, and create opportunities that strengthen both our students and our community,” said Stephen Mercurio, Chair of the D’Youville University Board of Trustees. “From opening Western New York’s first College of Osteopathic Medicine to expanding workforce development and increasing the long-term value of a D’Youville education, her leadership continues to position the university for an even stronger future. This recognition is a reflection of both her vision and the extraordinary progress taking place across D’Youville.”

A tireless advocate for education, workforce development, and regional collaboration, Dr. Clemo also serves on the boards of Kaleida Health, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities in New York, among others, helping shape conversations that extend well beyond the university.

As D’Youville continues to grow and innovate, Dr. Clemo’s recognition among Western New York’s most influential women reflects not only her leadership, but the collective progress of a university committed to preparing graduates for meaningful careers, expanding access to healthcare, and strengthening the communities it serves.
