Biography

Dr. Fred Xavier is a physician-scientist, biomedical engineer, medical educator, and medical affairs professional with more than 15 years of experience spanning orthopedic surgery, translational research, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. His career has integrated clinical expertise and scientific innovation through appointments at leading academic institutions and healthcare organizations across North America and Europe.

Dr. Xavier serves as Associate Professor of Anatomy and Musculoskeletal Medicine at the ��Ƶ College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he teaches medical students and contributes to curriculum development in musculoskeletal medicine and clinical sciences. He is also Co-Founder of Xavibi, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in biomedical technologies and scientific communications.

An orthopedic surgeon by training, Dr. Xavier completed his residency in France, followed by fellowship training in pediatric orthopedics and adult spine surgery in France and Canada. He earned both an MS and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering through New York University and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He later completed a postdoctoral clinical research fellowship in spinal disorders at Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.

His scholarly interests include orthopedic biomechanics, spinal deformity, medical devices, biomaterials, tissue engineering, surgical innovation, and artificial intelligence in healthcare.

He has held industry leadership and consulting roles in medical affairs, regulatory strategy, pharmacovigilance, clinical evidence generation, and healthcare compliance.

Dr. Xavier has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and scientific reports and has presented internationally at meetings including NASS, ORS, ICEOS, CSS, and PHUSE.

Dr. Xavier is fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole, with intermediate proficiency in Spanish.

Outside of his professional activities, Dr. Xavier is a devoted father of two daughters. He enjoys painting, soccer, hiking, swimming, and music (viola, guitar, choir ensembles).

Biography

Dr. Piechowski earned a Ph.D. in Integrated Bioscience from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio where she began investigating the impact of flavored electronic cigarette vapor on cardiovascular physiology during development. Her continued interest in the health effects of vaping has resulted in peer-reviewed publications as well as her students presenting research posters at local, regional, and national conferences. Dr. Piechowski has experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels where her teaching interests include physiology and related subjects.

Kristin Weidert (“why-dirt") is an osteopathic board-certified pediatrician and IBCLC with a passion for using hands on osteopathic neuromuscular medicine techniques to help the populations she treats. Since completing pediatric residency in Detroit, Michigan, she has been in general pediatrics practice positions ranging from full spectrum academic pediatrics to private practice/pediatric express care and most recently newborn hospitalist. Throughout her clinical career, she has always enjoyed teaching patients, parents, and students which inspired this transition to teach osteopathic medical students full time. In her free time, she loves spending time outside with her family.

Biography

Leslie “Tré” McClinton, III serves as the Simulation Specialist for the D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Born and raised in Mississippi, he developed an early passion for service, healthcare, and education values that continue to guide his work in medical education and biomedical research.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tougaloo College in 2023. His undergraduate research focused on the molecular mechanisms of castration-resistant prostate cancer, which laid the foundation for his continued interests in translational research and medical education. He has gained experience in laboratory instruction, clinical research, and healthcare education through work with Tougaloo College, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the University at Buffalo.

At D’Youville, Tré is dedicated to advancing simulation-based medical education by supporting hands-on, experiential learning that builds clinical confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. He values collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to create meaningful learning experiences that prepare future clinicians for practice.

He is passionate about the intersection of medicine, research, and education, with a long-term interest in contributing to healthcare innovation and biomedical discovery.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and watching basketball.

Dr. Kaur is an accomplished molecular microbiologist and antimicrobial pharmacologist with extensive expertise in teaching biomedical sciences and conducting high-impact research on multidrug-resistant pathogens. She has over 8 years of experience teaching graduate and professional students in microbiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and biochemistry. Dr. Kaur possesses the ability to develop engaging curricula, mentor students in research, and translate complex scientific concepts into accessible learning experiences. She has a strong commitment to medical education with expertise spanning multiple foundational science disciplines essential for preclinical medical training and proven success in interdisciplinary collaboration across pharmacy, medicine, and basic sciences.

Research Interests

Dr. Kaur’s research interests center on antimicrobial resistance, infectious diseases, and improving treatment strategies for difficult-to-treat bacterial infections, including pathogens recognized by the World Health Organization as major global health threats. Her work has focused on multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with an emphasis on how these pathogens respond to therapy, develop resistance, and persist under drug pressure. She is especially interested in translational strategies, such as antimicrobial pharmacology, optimized combination therapy, and drug repurposing, that can enhance the effectiveness of existing and novel treatments against resistant infections.

Biography

Dr. Heather Harvey received her Doctorate in Public Health from the University of South Carolina, in 1999. Over two decades she served on the faculty at various universities and medical schools in the US, West Indies and Middle East, with an emphasis on community health, health policy, ethics & epidemiology. During that time, she also consulted and developed specialized curriculums as an educational consultant in Thailand, Jordan & Saudi Arabia.

She returned to the US in 2021 to focus on current public health needs related to Covid 19 & served as the course director for the health sciences and preventative medicine & public health at Limestone University & Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine Montana, respectively, as well is a contracted consultant for the New Mexico Health Care Authority, Managed Care Oversight Bureau.

She has published more than 30 peer–reviewed journal articles and has over 600 publication citations. She has presented both nationally and internationally in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East and served on various international conference planning boards including the International General Practice & Primary Care and International General Medicine Conferences, in addition to being both a peer-reviewer and presenter for the APHA’s national conference.

Biography

Dr. Jordan Keys is the Associate Dean of Osteopathic Integration and OMM Chair at D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also co-owns a private practice in Midtown Manhattan with her colleague, Keys.

Board-certified in both Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Jordan brings a holistic and systems-based approach to healthcare. Her professional passions lie in advancing osteopathic medicine, exploring the structural and systemic factors that contribute to health disparities—including structural racism and LGBTQIA+ healthcare inequities—and integrating somatic approaches to trauma care. She has completed an Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy certification through The Embody Lab.

Dr. Keys is the founder of the Conference on Osteopathic Research and Knowledge (CORK), an initiative created to advance scholarship, collaboration, and innovation within the osteopathic profession. Through CORK, she has helped cultivate a national forum where clinicians, educators, researchers, and trainees can share emerging evidence, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and promote the integration of osteopathic principles into research and clinical practice. Her leadership in establishing this conference reflects her commitment to expanding the scientific foundation of osteopathic medicine and mentoring the next generation of osteopathic scholars.

Dr. Keys has developed and implemented innovative OMM curricula incorporating structural competency and cultural humility. She continues to advocate for trauma-informed, inclusive spaces in both clinical and academic settings. Her work is grounded in the belief that understanding ourselves and the systems we operate within is key to creating environments where everyone can thrive.

Biography

Dr. Jessica Walker is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy in the ��Ƶ College of Osteopathic Medicine. She brings more than eight years of experience in cadaveric dissection–based anatomy education and interdisciplinary health sciences instruction. Dr. Walker earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh, where her work emphasized human anatomy, biological anthropology, and bioarchaeology. Dr. Walker’s experience as an educator includes roles in multiple health care programs, where she taught anatomy and physiopathology courses.

At D’Youville, Dr. Walker teaches anatomy alongside her colleagues with an emphasis on clinically relevant and student-centered learning. Her teaching philosophy focuses on active learning, problem-solving, and the integration of foundational science concepts with clinical applications. She is particularly passionate about cadaveric anatomy education and creating engaging learning environments that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and lifelong learning among future healthcare professionals.

Dr. Walker’s research interests include anatomical variation, musculoskeletal pathology, historical epidemiology, bioarchaeology, and community health research.

A historic day for ��Ƶ, Buffalo, and the future of healthcare in Western New York.

Today, ��Ƶ officially welcomed the inaugural class of its College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM), marking the opening of Western New York's first osteopathic medical school and the region's first new medical school in nearly 200 years. After years of planning, preparation, and collaboration, 97 future physicians walked into their first day of medical school, launching a new chapter for both the University and healthcare across New York State.

"There are moments when a single decision can shape the future of an entire region. Today is one of those moments," said Dr. Lorrie Clemo, President of ��Ƶ. "The students beginning their education at ��Ƶ will one day care for our families, strengthen our healthcare workforce, and improve the health of communities throughout Western New York. That is what makes today a defining moment not only for ��Ƶ, but for our region."

The inaugural class was filled ahead of schedule, attracting students from across the country whose academic credentials exceeded initial expectations. Forty-six percent of the class comes from New York State, reflecting both the program's national appeal and ��Ƶ's commitment to educating physicians with strong ties to the communities they will ultimately serve.

For Dr. Nicholas Camposeo, Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the day represents the culmination of years of work by faculty, staff, and University leadership.

"This is the moment we've been working toward since the College was first envisioned," said Camposeo. "Our faculty and staff are excited to welcome these students and begin preparing the next generation of osteopathic physicians. As the inaugural class, they will help establish the culture, traditions, and legacy of this medical school while learning what it means to provide compassionate, whole-person care."

Students will begin their education on ��Ƶ's main campus before transitioning in Fall 2027 to the College's permanent home at 285 Delaware Avenue, where renovations are underway to transform the 125,000-square-foot building into a state-of-the-art medical education facility. The College has also established nearly 50 clinical affiliation agreements across New York State, ensuring students receive diverse, hands-on clinical experiences throughout their medical education.

As classes begin, the focus shifts from building a medical school to educating future physicians. Guided by the principles of osteopathic medicine and whole-person care, ��Ƶ's newest students will spend the next four years preparing to serve patients, strengthen communities, and help address physician shortages across New York State.

��Ƶ has named Nicholas Camposeo, DO, FACEP, Dean of the D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM), a key leadership appointment as the University prepares to welcome its inaugural class of medical students this August.

Dr. Camposeo has been part of the College of Osteopathic Medicine since its earliest stages and was among the first employees hired to help build the program. Most recently serving as Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education, he has played an instrumental role in the development of DYU-COM’s curriculum, clinical partnerships, and student experience.

The appointment comes at an exciting time for the University, which recently filled its inaugural class of 90 students ahead of schedule and continues preparations for the start of classes this summer.

“Nick has been part of this vision from the very beginning,” said Dr. Lorrie Clemo, President of D’Youville University. “As we prepare to welcome our first class of student physicians, it was important to have a permanent dean in place who understands the mission of the College, the needs of our students, and the healthcare challenges facing our region. Nick’s leadership, experience, and long-standing professional connections throughout Western New York make him exceptionally well suited to lead the College through its successful launch and continued growth.”

Dr. Camposeo completed his undergraduate studies at the University at Buffalo before earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University. He later returned to Western New York to complete his emergency medicine residency at the University at Buffalo and today serves as a board-certified emergency medicine physician at Erie County Medical Center.

His professional interests include medical simulation, physician training, and student success. In 2022, he was recognized as Academic Teaching Attending of the Year by UBMD Emergency Medicine. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS).

“Helping build DYU-COM from the ground up has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” said Dr. Camposeo. “It is an honor to serve as Dean as we welcome our inaugural class and continue building a medical school that is focused on excellence, innovation, and service. Having trained and practiced in Western New York, I understand firsthand the importance of developing physicians who are connected to the communities they serve. We have a tremendous opportunity to educate future doctors who will make a lasting impact on healthcare in our region and beyond.”

The D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine is Western New York’s first osteopathic medical school and the region’s first new medical school in nearly 200 years. The College received pre-accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and will welcome its inaugural class in August 2026.

DYU-COM’s mission emphasizes whole-person care, community engagement, and the preparation of physicians who are equipped to meet the healthcare needs of underserved and rural communities. Nearly 50 clinical affiliation agreements have been established across New York State, providing students with diverse and meaningful clinical training opportunities.
